Vintage Surfboard Appraisal

Auction results are a great way to determining value of a collectible. Appraisers most often use auction sales to accurately determine the value of collectibles, antiques, art and other rarities.

You should be able to get a reasonable idea of what your board might be worth by using auctions as a guide but you should keep a few things in mind. Price is drastically effected by provenance, size, color, condition, originality, level of repair, refurbish or restoration and other factors. In other words, if you have the exact same board or collectible, it’s important that you make adjustments for these factors. Whenever possible, you should always go with the auction item that most represents exactly what you have.

For more details on vintage surfboard auctions, see the complete list of all auction results from 1997 through 2012 in The Ultimate Guide To Vintage Surfboards & Collectibles in the Auction Results chapter. This chapter includes nearly 1,000 collectible surfboards with detailed descriptions and sales prices. There are an additional 350+ photos of the auction boards – that is in addition to the more than 500 boards pictured in the book and the more than 2,200 photos of surfboards and collectibles.
